How to download and edit a Zwift FIT file

Zwift saves every ride and run as a .fit file, and it can be downloaded from Zwift.com or found on the computer or tablet you rode on. Zwift's own tools only let you change an activity's title and who can see it. To fix the data, edit the file and upload the corrected version to Strava, Garmin Connect, or TrainingPeaks.

Step 1: get the file

From Zwift.com (works for any device, including Apple TV):

  1. Go to zwift.com/feed and sign in.
  2. Select JUST ME.
  3. Open the activity.
  4. Select the cog icon, then DOWNLOAD FIT FILE.

The feed shows your last 250 activities, and files download one at a time.

From the device you rode on:

  • Mac: in Finder, choose Go, Home, then open Documents/Zwift/Activities.
  • Windows: since February 2026, Zwift saves files to C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Local\Zwift\Activities. AppData is hidden by default; turn on hidden items in File Explorer's View menu. Rides from before the change are still in Documents\Zwift\Activities (or OneDrive\Documents\Zwift\Activities).
  • iPhone, iPad, and Android: on the Zwift title screen, tap the grey file icon in the top right corner. Activity files are in the right column. Select the ones you want, tap OK, and email them to yourself.
  • Apple TV: the files can't be reached on the device. Use Zwift.com, or contact Zwift support if the ride never got there.

The local copy matters most when Zwift crashed or lost connection before the ride finished uploading. If the activity isn't in your feed, look in the Activities folder for a file with that day's date.

Step 2: fix it

Open the file in FIT File Editor. Power, heart rate, cadence, and speed are on the timeline, and the virtual route is on the map.

  • Zwift crashed and the ride is in two files. Open the first, press the plus button, and add the second. They join into one activity with a pause where Zwift was down. See merge FIT files.
  • A file that won't upload. A ride cut off by a crash can leave a truncated file. Open it anyway: the editor recovers every record it can read and writes a clean, valid file. See repair a FIT file.
  • Power spikes or dropouts. A trainer that lost its connection for a moment, or a reading of 2,000 W from a sprint that never happened, skews average power, your best efforts, and training load. Select the stretch and cap, smooth, or fill it with the fix tool.
  • Warm-up or cool-down you don't want. Drag across it on the timeline and press Cut. See crop a FIT file.
  • Your watch has the heart rate, Zwift has the power. A common setup: Zwift records the trainer, and a watch records the same session with your heart rate, because the strap or watch wasn't paired to Zwift. Open the Zwift file and add the watch file. Heart rate, power, or cadence that the Zwift file has none of is filled in from the watch over the time they overlap, and what Zwift already recorded is left alone. You end up with one activity instead of two.
  • Logged as the wrong sport. If a session should be filed as a treadmill run, an indoor ride, or a virtual ride and came through as something else, set the sport and sub-type in the details panel. See change the sport.

Press Export to save the edited .fit. Nothing leaves your browser.

Step 3: upload it

Delete the original activity first on every platform Zwift sent it to, then upload the edited file. Strava, Garmin Connect, and TrainingPeaks all reject a file that overlaps an activity they already have. The duplicate activity guide covers the order that works.

If you combined Zwift with a watch recording, delete both originals: the Zwift upload and the one your watch synced. Otherwise the combined file collides with one of them.

The copy in your Zwift feed stays as it was. Zwift's help doesn't describe a way to replace it with an edited file. To delete it, use the Zwift Companion app: ACTIVITIES, JUST ME, open the activity, tap the edit icon in the top right corner, then Permanently delete this activity?. Zwift notes this can't be undone, so download the file first.

Worth knowing

  • Combine, don't keep both. Two copies of the same session on Garmin Connect or TrainingPeaks count the training load twice. One combined file is the cleaner record.
  • Keep the watch file's sport in mind. If you open the watch file first and add the Zwift file instead, the watch file's sport and device are kept. Open whichever file you want the activity to be filed under.
  • Zwift's map is virtual. The GPS points in a Zwift file are positions in the game world. If you open an indoor watch file first and add the Zwift file, the watch file picks up that virtual track too, since it recorded no GPS of its own.
  • Distance from a trainer. If the distance is off because the trainer or Zwift was set up wrong, type the real total in the details panel, and speed and distance scale across the whole activity.
